Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain ceramic that we permanently cement to the surface of your natural tooth to improve the tooth’s appearance. Veneers are an ideal solution for a variety of dental issues, including:

  • Stained teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Damaged enamel
  • Weakened teeth

We match your veneers to the surrounding teeth in your mouth so your smile looks natural. Or, if you’re getting a set of veneers that cover most of your visible teeth, you can opt for a shade brighter than your natural teeth for instant whitening.

What are the advantages of veneers?

Veneers are often an ideal alternative to braces and other orthodontic treatments, and they deliver a brighter, improved smile in just two dental visits. Additionally, veneers look natural and resist stains, so you can keep your brighter smile without the need for additional whitening treatments down the road.

Veneers also:

  • Help strengthen your teeth
  • Custom fit to your teeth for comfort
  • Are easily tolerated by your gum tissue
  • Improve the aesthetics of your smile without extensive dental work
  • May cost less than orthodontics or other dental procedures

Since we cement the veneers to your teeth, they become a permanent part of your healthy smile.

What can I expect during a veneer procedure?

Typically, your veneers take just two dental visits to complete. At the first appointment, we will explain the procedure and determines which teeth can benefit from veneers. We also match the color for your desired outcome so your veneers can be custom-made just for your teeth. Next, we clean your teeth and remove a small amount of enamel from the surface to prepare them for veneers.

Afterward, we make an impression of your teeth so the lab can create veneers that will fit your teeth exactly. We will also place a temporary veneer over the surface of your teeth to protect them between appointments while your veneers are being made.

At your second appointment, we will remove the temporary veneer and use a special adhesive and dental cement to place the new veneer to the precise contour of your tooth. Once the veneer cures for about 60 seconds, it’s permanently attached. We'll also make sure to remove any excess material and polish the veneer.

You brush and floss your new veneers just as you would your natural teeth to keep your mouth healthy for years to come.
